[Clarksville, Tenn., November 6, 2023] – The Gateway Chamber Orchestra (GCO) is proud to announce its upcoming concert, “Winter Baroque.” As one of the leading chamber orchestras in the county, the GCO has captivated audiences for over a decade with their artistry and passion.
GCO’s fan-favorite event, "Winter Baroque," returns on November 19, 2023, showcasing the GCO Chorale, as well as an enchanting collaboration with the esteemed Clarksville Children's Chorus. This year's performance will feature Jan Zelenka's mesmerizing Gloria, a masterwork by an often-overlooked Czech master. A terrific cast of soloists includes soprano Penelope Shumate, counter-tenor Min Sang Kim, and baritone Jeffrey Williams. Baroque orchestral favorites, including the famous overture to Handel’s Messiah and the timeless "Christmas" Concerto by Arcangelo Corelli, are also on the program. The concert is at Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Tenn., on November 19 at 4 p.m.
Maestro Gregory Wolynec expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming concert, stating, "This concert has marked the beginning of the Holiday season for Clarksville for over a decade now. In that time, we have featured works by the three most famous Baroque composers (Bach, Vivaldi and Handel) while also introducing audiences to overlooked treasures. Just over 20 years ago, I had a chance to spend a magical year in Prague where I was introduced to a number of new to me composers and works. I am delighted to finally feature one of my biggest discoveries from that trip. Zelenka’s Gloria is simply enchanting."
