In our first masterworks program in over two years, we are delighted to present an evening of impassioned music for strings. Jessie Montgomery’s Banner provides a perfect reflection on the time that has passed since our last program. George Walker’s achingly beautiful Lyric sets the stage for Tchaikovsky’s great masterpiece filled with radiant melodies.

Osvaldo Golijov, La Pasión según San Marcos

This landmark performance represents the most ambitious undertaking in the history of the GCO. Golijov’s work for chorus, orchestra, vocal soloists, and dancers is one of the most important works of the last 50 years. This tribute to Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is a captivating blending of cultures and is supported by an all-star cast.

Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection"

Our spring programming ends with one of the grandest works ever written. From the opening funeral march to the closing strains of triumph, Mahler’s portrait of everlasting renewal is the perfect reflection on the times we have endured and the future we envision. Massive orchestral and choral forces are gathered for this once-in-a-lifetime event.
