Gateway Chamber Orchestra Enchants with Duke Ellington Holiday "Nutcracker" Concert

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. – Gateway Chamber Orchestra enchants all ages with their unique take on The Nutcracker on Saturday evening, December 19, and Sunday afternoon, December 20, 2022. This Holiday favorite, with a “Duke Ellington meets Tchaikovsky” twist, features exclusive performances by guest artists from Nashville Ballet, Ballet West, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. International sensation Ingrid Silva makes her Clarksville debut in this year’s production.


GCO Music Director Gregory Wolynec says, “We are thrilled to continue to evolve our special Nutcracker. Naturally, I am excited to bring back our orchestra and jazz band for Tchaikovsky and Ellington, but I am so looking forward to bringing the two groups together for a new Salsa-inspired selection complete with fresh choreography. We believe that our art should embrace our wonderfully diverse community. You won’t want to miss this!”


Nashville Ballet dancer Mackenzie Kenyon, returns to reprise her role of Sugar Rum Cherry. Ballet West dancer Vinicus Lima, will premier a new work by emerging choreographer, Katlyn Addison to the music, Cuban Sugar by Sverre Indris Joner.


Interim Executive Director Summer Fuchs shares, “Showcasing professional dancers in conjunction with a memorable spotlight on local dance students, the GCO is pleased to present Ingrid Silva and Dylan Santos both of Dance Theater of Harlem, in the roles of Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier. Patrons may recognize Silva from her association with brands such as Dior and Nike, (where she is featured in a video narrated by Serena Williams). Silva is also the first African Brazilian to grace the covers of both Pointe Magazine and Vogue (Brazil).”
